DARWIN - March 26, 2009 - July 31, 2022
Darwin was born in March 2009 as part of the test litter for the gene marker for improper coat. He was one of the improperly coated puppies. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong attachment to Kari and thus became her dog even though he was originally slated to go to a service dog program as an peanut detecting dog. He was a moderate male, 21.5" in height and 50 lbs. A challenging adolescent, he nevertheless competed in obedience, rally, and water at a young age, and once mature, went on to compete in agility, nosework, barn hunt, and tracking. While not a super fan of obedience, he nevertheless earned rally titles through the excellent level and earned both a CD and a CDX before the AKC changed the rules concerning the stay exercises. In his older years, he enjoyed learning a variety of tricks and earned his trick performer title at the ripe old age of 11. He earned a Multiple Achievement Certificate Level 6 (MAC-6) achievement award as well as a Bronze, Silver, and Gold Register of Merit from the PWDCA; he also received an AKC Achiever award and earned an AKC VCD2 title. He earned his SWN title at age 10, and finished several NADAC agility titles as an 11 year old veteran. He then enjoyed retirement for 2 years before getting a blockage that caused pancreatitis, having surgery to repair the blockage, but unfortunately aspirating while coming out of anesthesia and contracting aspiration pneumonia. He was a magnificent dog and we miss him greatly. In honor of his life and accomplishments, the Tracking Club of Massachusetts made a $50 contribution to the PDF Foundation, which funds research on canine cancer. ACCOMPLISHMENTS
