WATER Training for Your PWD

Picture
Picture
Recognizing that some owners have neither the time nor the wherewithal to locate local PWD clubs and go train with them,  and that seminars and workshops during the winter are likely to be small or not held at all, Topsail PWDs has put together a 12 week course that will teach PWD owners the basics needed for water work.   Many PWD clubs call this "DRY DOCK" training and offer workshops for those interested.  However, it often takes weeks and weeks to train the "dry dock" skills and that's where this course can help as you can work on a skill for a week or so, videotape your efforts, and get feedback on your training techniques.  It will also provide you with the opportunity to go back multiple times to a particular training video to work out kinks in your and your dog's performances.

The training techniques used are a blend of dry docks given by Deborah Lee Miller Riley (of Canine Water Sports and Yankee Paw Paddlers), Christine Dostie and Kathan Kennedy of PWDsNE, Melinda Harvey of Nutmeg PWD Club, and various other seminar presenters, and obedience instructor, Nancy Droukas of Performance Plus K9 Activity Center.

The PWDCA and its sanctioned clubs hold annual water trials around the country where you can test your dog's skills and connect and have fun with many other PWD enthusiasts.  We hope that if you are interested, you will consider signing up for this course.

THIS COURSE IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE WHILE WE MOVE TO TEACHABLE.  In the interim, I highly (very highly) recommend watching the videos that water judge John Brock has put together in his Underachiever's Guide to Water Training.  Click here to get to his main page.
